Whitworth in the Evening – Downtown U-District
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where is the Whitworth U-District location?
We are located in the Sirti building at 665 N. Riverpoint Blvd., Suite 202. Our office is located just inside the main entrance, to your left. Whitworth offers free parking for its visitors and students, but you must contact us directly to receive your parking permit. Click here for a map and instructions for a parking permit.
Q: Why are you opening a location in the U-District?
The time is right for Whitworth to provide Spokane-area residents with greater access to our convenient, six-week, accelerated-format evening classes. We know that working adults need educational opportunities that take into consideration their busy lives; our hope is that people will take advantage of the opportunity to attend classes closer to where they live and/or work.
Q: Will I be able to meet with an advisor downtown?
Yes – when it's most convenient for you; after-work and early evening hours are available. Please call 509.777.4298 for an appointment.
Q: Which classes will be offered downtown?
Initially, we are offering general education requirement classes (for example, written communication, history, math, etc.), as well as all courses for the B.A. in Organizational Management Program.
Q: Which degrees are available in the U-District?
The first degree offered in the U-District location will be the bachelor of arts in organizational management. All classes required for this degree will be offered downtown in the U-District location, including general education requirements. Our plan is to begin offering other degree programs downtown as we assess demand. Please let us know if you’re looking for a particular degree; we’ll be sure to include that information in our assessment.
Q: Will I be able to take all classes needed for my degree downtown?
Yes, for the organizational management degree. General education classes will be offered on a rotating basis, with a variety of classes offered each six-week session. If a student is continuously enrolled, he/she should be able to complete all general education requirements in less than two years. For those in our Organizational Management program, all classes required for the major will be offered in our U-District location.
For those in other degree programs, general education classes may be taken at either the U-District or Whitworth campus locations. At this time courses for our Evening Teacher Certification and Bachelor of Liberal Studies program majors are only offered at the on-campus location.
Q: Are all Whitworth evening program classes moving to the U-District?
No. Students who prefer to attend classes at the Whitworth University campus will still be able to do so. All evening students will be able to take classes at either campus, whichever is most convenient. The only exception to attending both campus and downtown classes is that students in the organizational management cohort classes must take all the classes in their major at one location.
Q: When do classes begin?
The first Whitworth classes in the U-District begin Aug. 18, with new classes starting every six weeks.
Q: Do I have to wait for the beginning of a semester to begin classes?
No. Students can start taking classes at the beginning of any six-week session.
Q: Does tuition include books at the downtown location as well?
Yes. The books for each class will be delivered to you, free of charge, your first night of class.
Q: What are your downtown office hours?
We are currently available in the U-District office by appointment only, while renovations on our space are being completed. Once the work is done, we will be setting regular downtown office hours. Watch our website at www.whitworth.edu/downtown for more details.
Q: Can I take classes during the day in the U District?
No, the U-District location will offer classes only in our accelerated-evening format, specifically designed for working adults age 25 and older. For information about our traditional day program, please contact Whitworth’s admissions office at 509.777.4786.
