Department SpotlightWhitworth Students to Participate in Regional Art Exhibit
Hours spent creating works of art in paint-speckled clothing or with ink-smudged fingers will finally pay off for two talented Whitworth students. Seniors Esme Carson and Charlie Fornia, both art majors, were selected by the Art Department faculty to participate in this year's regional college-student art exhibition, Explorations VIII.
"These are two students who will represent our department and college well," says Gordon Wilson, associate professor of art at Whitworth.
The annual exhibit, which is put on by the Spokane Arts Commission, will be held in the Chase Gallery in the Spokane City Hall Feb. 19 through March 29. Each student will show three pieces of art; Carson's work will be in the medium of printmaking and Fornia will exhibit paintings.
"The purpose of the exhibition is to give the public the opportunity to see work by up-and-coming artists in our region and to give students a professional exhibition experience," Wilson says.
Other schools represented in the exhibit will be Eastern Washington University, Spokane Falls Community College, Gonzaga University and North Idaho College.
