Dr. Craig Tsuchida has been a professor of biology
at Whitworth University since 1996. He received his B.S. and M.A. Degrees
from UCLA and worked in the UCLA School of Medicine's Department of Microbiology
and Immunology examining a model system for the evolution of vertebrate
adaptive immunity. His Ph.D. research work at the University of California
at Santa Cruz involved studying a symbiotic association of an intertidal
sea anemone. After completing his graduate studies Dr. Tsuchida held visiting
professor positions at Washington College (MD) and at Hamilton College
(NY). He has maintained his research interests in the biology of symbiosis
and the ecological significance of clonal organisms, particularly those
found in marine invertebrates. Courses taught by Dr. Tsuchida include
Animal Biology, Invertebrate Biology, Ecology, Symbiotic Biology, Marine
Biology, Animal Physiology, and Core 350. A new January term field course,
Marine Ecology, is being developed which will allow students to study
the marine flora and fauna of the Friday Harbor Lab on San Juan Island,
WA.
