Student Activities
Communication studies department students have diverse opportunities to explore their interests. The Whitworthian newspaper staff members have received regional and national awards for outstanding reporting, design, interactive web content, and photojournalism. KWRS offers alternative music both in internet webcast and over the airwaves. Natsihi yearbook staff members repeatedly have been honored for by their publishing house for excellent writing and design. Public speaking students have taken sweepstakes honors in recent forensics competition and the Whitworth Ethics Bowl Team has ranked highly in regional tournaments. Students have the opportunity to compete for talent awards in the department's annual speech contest.
Students have the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom through service-learning projects. Public relations students have created fundraising programs for Young Life and developed Bloomsday promotional programs to increase the number of volunteers at Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. Organizational communication students meet with community service agencies and review grant applications as part of a campus philanthropy project. |
