OJ Cotes received her ME in Administration from Whitworth College. During her 34 years with the Spokane School District she taught at both the middle and high school levels and then moved to a central office position in staff development. During these years she worked with administrators and teachers focusing on the skills of instruction and instructional strategies. OJ has been actively involved in many state grants and programs involving the mentoring of new teachers, new teacher certification and recruitment of teachers. A major focus has included a program for high school students encouraging them to consider a career in education; one for students of color, Future Teachers of Color and another, The Teaching Academy. In addition, her heritage and personal interest has focused and supported the Native American communities and programs for students in this area.
