Hollar Office Location: Dixon Hall
Past experiences for Carol Hollar include public school teaching at the primary and intermediate grade levels with specialties in art and science, counseling at the K-8 levels in public and private schools, and teaching in the School of Education at Gonzaga University for eight years. At Whitworth recent responsibilities have included teaching Language Arts in the Elementary School, Introduction to Intercultural Education, Literacy Block Field Experience and Supervision, Classroom Management, Field Experience in Intercultural Education during Jan Term (development of sites for and placement of about 130 graduates and undergraduates throughout the world). Newly developed Jan Term sites include Taiwan and Thailand. Lithuania and New Mexico are being developed for Jan Term 2005. Other responsibilities include service as Acting Director of Student Teaching, Coordinator of the Intercultural Program, and service on the university's Educational Review Board, Off-Campus Study Committee, and the International Education Task Force. Intercultural/multicultural education is of particular interest of Professor Hollar who has also been involved with recruitment and retention of minority students at Whitworth. She has served a number of years as Washington State Director of an international children's adoption and aid program. She also has strong ties with the public schools as a supervisor of student teaching, working with children and families who are immigrants, development of multicultural sites during Jan Term, development of sites for the department's Extended Placement Program, and as a school board member and vice-president of the District 123 school board.
