Debbie Tully is the director of the new Evening Teacher Certification Program. Over the past ten years, she has worked for Whitworth
in the capacities of supervisor, placement coordinator and instructor
of coursework in special education, classroom management and elementary
and social studies methods. Prior to coming to Whitworth, Debbie worked
within public school systems in California, Oregon and Illinois. Her public
school experience spans from pre-school through high school including
positions as a general educator, special education teacher, diagnostician,
district special services consultant, and early childhood screening and
placement coordinator.
Professionally, Debbie has presented at the National Conference of the
Association for the Education of Young Children and the Washington State
Personnel Association Conference and is an active member of the Council
for Exceptional Children. In addition to elementary and special education
topics, Debbie's current research interests include adult learners,
leadership in educational settings and character development. Her highest priority is preparing
teachers who are competent to teach all children in today's inclusive
classrooms.
Debbie received her bachelor's degree in English and elementary education
and her M.Ed. in special education. Both were from the University of San
Diego. In addition, she earned her administrative certificate from Portland
State University.
