The application to masters' degree programs in Graduate Studies in Education requires evidence to support your interest in the program, the benefit that this program will be to you, and your qualifications to do graduate level work. Please read each item below carefully as you prepare your application packet.

1. Prerequisites for applying to the program:

• Completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Minimum undergraduate or graduate G.P.A of 3.0; (2.7 for conditional admission) overall or in final 30 semester hours of study.
  

2. General Information -- Complete and/or submit each of the following:

• Whitworth Application for Admission (enclosed).
• Character and Fitness Supplement
• Two professional recommendations (one from a supervisor) using enclosed forms.
• Official transcripts from each college or university attended sent directly to GSE office.
• $35 non-refundable application fee.
• Your current resume
  

3. Evidence to Support Your Interest in the Program - Complete each of the following:

• A typed, one-two page statement describing (1) why you are interested in the master’s degree, (2) how this degree will be of benefit to you in your professional role and (3) what you believe you would contribute as a member of the student body of graduate students at Whitworth University.
• A typed, signed letter from a supervisor or other appropriate person that supports your participation in the program and its benefits to you professionally. (This is not a confidential recommendation).

4. Evidence to Support Your Professional Preparation for the Program - Complete one of the following:

• Submit Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test scores. (Generally, 25 percentile or higher.)
• Miller Analogy Test (MAT) scores that demonstrate a level of achievement appropriate for graduate level work. (Generally, 25%ile or higher.)
• Submit a statement with documenting evidence from three or more sources that supports your ability for success in graduate school. (Note: Evidence should address general verbal and mathematical ability, written communication and critical thinking. The statement may include previous performance in graduate level courses, additional recommendations from one or more supervisors or former instructors addressing your academic ability, evidence of success in current work, evidence of high level of achievement in undergraduate program, or other appropriate indicators.)

5. Admission Decision:

• An admissions committee will evaluate all material that is submitted, and a decision will be made regarding your admission. Additional documentation may be requested.
• The admissions committee may request an interview with you.
• When the Admissions Committee reaches a decision, you will receive a letter that details the decision of the admissions committee. Acceptance may be granted unconditionally or conditionally. If conditional acceptance is granted, the conditions will be explained in the acceptance letter.
• After admission to Graduate Studies in Education, additional screenings and assessments of candidates may be administered in specific programs.
