Specialty Endorsement in Teaching the Gifted

Gifted students, an often overlooked group in student populations, need a particular type of instruction to thrive in school and in society. This specialty endorsement emphasizes curricular and instructional needs of students and focuses on strategies for identifying and reaching exceptional students in both mixed-ability and self-contained classrooms.

The specialty endorsement is available online; complete the program in just one year. Click here for the current schedule and tuition cost.

EDG 554/OL Strategies for Challenging Bright Students (spring, odd years) 3
EDG 508/OL Differentiating Instruction for Highly Capable Students 1
EDG 581G Practicum/Field Study Site assurance determined by the student, building administrator and the director of the Center for Gifted Education. 1-2
Electives Credits relating to gifted from at least two sources (class, conference, etc.) 2-4
Portfolio Final assessment to show evidence of knowledge & skills to meet Washington state standards and competencies.  

 

How to Apply
Admission documents needed for the specialty endorsement:

  • Whitworth GSE application form with $35 application fee; if you would like a paper application, please contact us by phone or e-mail as indicated below.
  • Official transcripts (Order these from ALL colleges and universities previously attended, and have them sent directly to the Graduate and Continuing Studies Admission office.)
  • A copy of your current, valid teaching certificate
