Whitworth University Master in
Teaching Program
Whitworth Master in Teaching Teachers are...
Initiated in 1989, Whitworth's Master in Teaching (MIT) Program was developed in
response to the Washington State Legislature's call for alternative
teacher-education programs. The MIT program provides schools with mature
teachers who have been successful members of society's workforce, and who then
re-enter the workforce as well-trained, enthusiastic, high-energy beginning
teachers ready to have an impact upon both the educational system and
individual students in very positive ways. Participants enter the program
having completed a bachelor's degree in an approved teaching endorsement area.
This rigorous, 14-month, full-time day program includes a year-long school
practicum.
MIT graduates complete concurrently a master's degree and a residency teacher
certificate. As a result, they are sought after by local school principals who
realize and appreciate the maturity of the students, the quality of their
preparation, and their eagerness to influence student achievement.
