The Host Family Project

Students in the Exceptional Learners class are placed with families who have children with disabilities to provide the students with an opportunity to learn about a specific disability, to discuss family priorities and concerns, to interact with a student who has a disability, and to get to know more about advocacy for families and children. The parents and Whitworth students spend about five hours together in the evenings or on weekends, whenever it is convenient for both parties. Parents share information about their child, their family routines, and special accommodations made for their child. The students spend time with the child and assist with tutoring, feeding, and/or other tasks that would be helpful to the family.

If you are interested in becoming a host family, please return the
Host Family Application (MS Word).
