| Undergraduate Teacher Education
Program: Admission Criteria and Procedures |
- Candidates must be of sophomore standing to
enroll in the introductory courses, EDU 201, Educational Psychology,
EDU 202, Exploring Teaching and EDU 203, Field Experience.
- Candidates must receive a C or better in the
introductory courses.
- Candidates are evaluated by the instructors
of EDU 201, EDU 202, and EDU 203 relative to Benchmark I standards which
are based on state standards and the department's conceptual model.

- Candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
at Whitworth for full admission into the program. Candidates with a
GPA less than 3.0, but above 2.75 may be admitted provisionally.
- Candidates must pass the Washington State West-B
exam, which assesses reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Candidates must receive a favorable evaluation
from their EDU 203 field experience teacher.
- Candidates submit written work on their motivations
for teaching, and complete an application packet.
- Candidates present programmatic portfolio evidence
on specific state knowledge and skills.
- Faculty members interview candidates and complete
a Disposition Inventory on each candidate.
