Faculty Honored by Colleagues for Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Betty Williams, Director of Special Education, received the college's teaching excellence award for 2000-2001. This award is based upon nominations from fellow faculty members and is decided by a committee of faculty members. The nomination cited Dr. William's excellent teaching and her establishment of "Host Family Project" in which Whitworth Education students spend time with a family who has a child with disabilities. This program was recognized by the Department of Education with a Best Practice Award.

The college, for her outstanding teaching as a Junior Faculty member, also recognized Dr. Barb Sanders, Secondary Coordinator for the School of Education. The nomination spoke of Dr. Sander's outstanding teaching evaluations and her work as chair of the State Pedagogy Assessment committee charged with developing the new pedagogy assessment for new teachers across the State of Washington.
