Whitworth University Writing Rally

The Whitworth Writing Rally is a family literacy initiative for students in pre-school through 6th grade. The event features presentations by a well-known children's author, followed by opportunities for participants to work with area teachers or Whitworth education students to create their own original illustrated book.
The writing rally is held the first Saturday in November and provides an opportunity for children to develop their reading and writing skills with assistance from a professional author and trained educators. Each child must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, older sibling, babysitter or friend.
During the rally, all participants will attend a presentation by a major children's author. Participants will then attend a two-hour writing session with trained educators where they will create, illustrate, and share a book with other members of the group. Writing sessions are organized by grade level; pre-schoolers attend a shortened one-hour session.
A $17 registration fee covers writing materials and a T-shirt for each child who participates. A reduced low-income rate and scholarships are available for those who qualify. Click here for a printable registration form.
