Doug was transplanted from Southern California to Spokane
in 1988. After receiving a BA from the University of California Berkeley,
Doug earned M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA, and taught in the UCLA composition
program before coming to Whitworth. Doug's specialties include Shakespeare,
late medieval British drama, and Asian American Literature. Doug is married
to Linda, a fourth-grade teacher, and they have two daughters, Katy and
Julie. Doug edited a medieval cycle play that premiered in England in
1997 and saw its American premiere at Gonzaga University in April 2002.
Together with Jim Waller of the Psychology Department, Doug received a
two-year Hewlett Foundation Grant to encourage diversity at Gonzaga and
Whitworth. On Sundays, Doug and Laura Bloxham can be found leading the
Book Club, an adult Sunday school class at Whitworth Presbyterian Church.
