Evaluation of Your Application
After all application documents have been received, the admissions committee will determine whether or not admission will be granted. Please allow four weeks for this decision after the MIM office has received all documents.

After Admission
Persons receiving notice of admission to the MIM program are asked to sign and return the Confirmation form which will arrive with your admission letter. This indicates your intent to join us at Whitworth. So that we may begin processing your I-20 for your F-1 student visa, a $200 enrollment fee is required.

Details about the Enrollment Fee
An enrollment fee of $5,000 must be received by Whitworth University before your I-20 can be processed. Whitworth's business office will keep this deposit safe in your student account. Your admission letter will indicate your student account number. This deposit will be restricted to your student account and be used for tuition costs only. Full reimbursement (minus bank wire costs) will be issued should you fail to acquire your F-1 visa to come to the United States.

  • All funds must be calculated and paid in U.S. currency, and can be paid by wire or cashiers check. Please remember that most banks charge a fee to transfer and to receive funds, so please be prepared for these charges so that the full amount of the required deposit can reach your student account. Do not send the enrollment fee until you receive an admission letter inviting you to study for the MIM degree.

  • For information on wire transfer contact Bonnie Wakefield at bwakefield@whitworth.edu

  • Or, send a cashiers check to:
    Business Office, Attn: Darla Freeborn
    Whitworth University
    300 W. Hawthorne Road

  • This deposit will be restricted to your student account and be used for tuition costs. Full reimbursement will be issued should you fail to acquire your visa to come to the United States. Please remember that most banks charge a fee to transfer and to receive funds. Please plan ahead for these charges so that the full amount of the required deposit can reach your student account. Do not send the deposit until you receive an admission letter inviting you to study for the MIM degree.

Student I-20
After the Whitworth business office has received your enrollment fee deposit, your I-20 will be processed and mailed to you. Please allow 2 weeks. In order to expedite the visa process, you may wish to make an appointment with your local visa office as soon as you receive confirmation of your admission, and have paid your enrollment fee. Contact Bonnie Wakefield at bwakefield@whitworth.edu to inform us of your visa interview date

Before You Arrive

  1. Make Housing Arrangements: Assistance with housing and transportation from the Spokane International Airport to Whitworth campus may be arranged in advance through the MIM office at 509.777.4280 or malberts@whitworth.edu. There are numerous apartments within walking distance of campus. Off-campus housing generally costs from $200 - $500 per month, depending on size, quality, and location. Click here for a PDF file with off-campus housing information. On-campus housing is limited and usually reserved for undergraduate students. If you would prefer to live on-campus, you will need to submit a request as early as possible, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
  2. Purchase Health Insurance through Whitworth: The federal government requires that you maintain health insurance while you are a student in the United States. In order to insure compliance with government regulations, Whitworth requires that you purchase insurance offered through the school which provides the following types of required coverage: accident, major medical, repatriation and medical evacuation. The cost of this insurance will be charged directly to your student account. For additional information, click here.
  3. Make Payment for Your First Semester Tuition: Payment for your first semester tuition (9 semester credits minus financial aid award) is required prior to your arrival on campus. Payment may be made by wire or a cashiers check. Please include your full name and student account number in the wire.
  • For information on wire transfer contact Bonnie Wakefield at bwakefield@whitworth.edu

After You Arrive

  1. Attend Orientation: You must attend the International Student Orientation and the Graduate School Orientation for new graduate students. These meetings are typically held one week before classes begin and are important to your success at Whitworth University. Information with the dates and times of each orientation meeting will be sent to you midsummer. You will need to plan your arrival at Whitworth University accordingly.
  2. Meet with MIM Language Coordinator: You may be asked to take an English placement test and encouraged to register for an advanced research writing course.
  3. Meet with your Graduate Advisor: Your admission letter will indicate which faculty member will serve as your graduate advisor throughout your MIM studies. After you have taken the English Language placement test, you need to meet with your graduate advisor to write a degree study plan. This is the official degree plan to follow. It indicates all courses that are required for the MIM degree including any prerequisite course work and electives.

Enrollment and Credits Required
The standard full-time course load for MIM students is six - nine semester credits during fall and spring semesters, a minimum two credits during Jan term, and six credits during summer semester. You are generally required to be continuously enrolled as a full-time student in order to complete the MIM program within a 15 - 24 month timeframe. To maintain your visa status you must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for each fall and spring semesters. Private grants and scholarships are calculated on the number of registered credits, or established as a set amount.

Employment
Students should expect to spend a considerable amount of time studying. Federal guidelines permit a maximum of 20 hours per week of on-campus employment. Students who would like to work part-time on campus should contact the Student Life Office at 509.777.3271. Employment opportunities are competitive and employment cannot be guaranteed.
