Director's Welcome
Let me welcome you to the Whitworth Master of International
Management program website, and to introduce you to a unique master's
program designed for new graduates, as well as for experienced professionals.
Recently, I asked a former Whitworth graduate, a successful business entrepreneur
here in Spokane, what advice he would have for students making decisions
about graduate school. Without a pause he said, "Do what you love." He
went on to explain that students, too often, choose educational programs
and professions that are not connected with their intrinsic interests
and capabilities. "Eventually," he said, "this leads to disillusionment,
and a deep seated disappointment in life."
The Master of International Management degree program
(MIM) offers an alternative for those students passionate about the importance
of global connectivity and a desire to develop essential business and
managerial skills. The need to form productive and mutually beneficial
relationships throughout the world has grown exponentially over the past
several decades. Even in the smallest towns in rural America, business
professionals are asking the same question -- How can we do business abroad?
For those of us in International Management, the answer is straightforward
-- by knowing how to assess market needs, and by understanding and building
intercultural relationships that make sense financially, politically,
and socially.
When asked about the benefits and strengths of the MIM
program, our graduates routinely identify the multi-cultural cohort of
students. Approximately 50 percent of our students come from a variety
of countries throughout the world including, Brazil, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia,
Canada, Ukraine, China, and Malawi, just to name a few. Whitworth University
provides our MIM students with generous grant and scholarship support
in order to attract and retain students who bring an impressive array
of professional and educational experience to the classroom. Our faculty
is selected for its commitment to academic standards, far-reaching thought,
and real world international experience. A targeted internship and an
active international alumni network provide students with the outreach
necessary to forward their educational and career goals.
As you explore your educational goals and academic options,
please don't hesitate to contact me. Informal meetings with our dean or
members of the faculty can also be arranged. I would enjoy the opportunity
to show you around our scenic campus, and to help you assess whether MIM
is the right program for you.
Kind regards,
