Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I attend the MIM program and still work full-time?
    Yes. The MIM courses are held in the evenings, allowing professionals to continue to work daytime hours.

  2. Is financial aid available?
    Yes. Financial aid from Whitworth University, in the form of a percentage of tuition remission, is available to both U.S. and international students. U.S. students are also eligible to apply for aid and/or loans from the United States government. MIM scholarships are available to both U. S. and international students. For more information, see the section on Financial Aid.

  3. How much financial aid can I expect to receive?
    MIM students have received grants ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent of tuition remission. Each student's application for need-based aid is considered individually, using the formula of educational costs minus expected family contribution to determine eligibility. For information on how to apply, please see the section on Financial Aid. Aid is available on a first-come basis.

  4. Can I begin the MIM program if I haven't met the prerequisite requirements?
    If you have never taken a class covering the subject of Management, Accounting, and Macroeconomics/Microeconomics, you will need to take prerequisite courses. Some of the options available to you is to either take the courses at the undergraduate level at Whitworth, complete them at another university/community college or CLEP the course

  5. Can I begin the program if I have never studied a foreign language?
    Yes. Domestic students whose foreign language abilities are not at a low-intermediate level may take the IM 539 course .

  6. Is it possible to submit my application materials online?
    Many of the required documents can be submitted through e-mail to mim@whitworth.edu. This includes the application form, resume, essay, financial aid statement and aid application form, and the two recommendation forms. Documents that must be received in hard copy format include official transcripts from all prior educational institutions and official TOEFL and GMAT or GRE scores sent directly from Education Testing Service.

  7. Can I transfer in any previous coursework to apply toward the MIM degree?
    Transfer credits from previous graduate-level courses will be assessed carefully and may be considered for transfer at the time a student enters the program. A maximum of six semester credits can be considered for transfer.

  8. Do I have to be a Christian to attend the MIM program at Whitworth University?
    No. Whitworth welcomes students from all beliefs and backgrounds. Our faculty respects the religious and cultural traditions of each individual.

  9. Are there opportunities for me to study abroad?
    Yes, we strongly encourage exchanges and study abroad. We have formal exchange agreements with universities in the Netherlands, Taiwan, Korea, France and Mexico. In addition, we can arrange for overseas study at almost any location desired, through ISEP. Please see the section on Opportunities Abroad for more information.

  10. Can I expect my classes to be practical and help me advance professionally?
    The MIM curriculum strives to balance both theoretical and practical education. Our faculty are experts in the field with substantial business backgrounds and are excellent sources for real-world training. Each MIM student is assigned an advisor who will help with setting realistic professional goals, preparing job credentials, and identifying extra-curricular activities that advance career goals. The career services department holds regular career, interviewing and resume-building workshops through out the year as well. In addition, the graduate program provides numerous opportunities for students to attend local business functions and meet business professionals, providing valuable contacts and networking opportunities.

  11. What kind of job can I get with an MIM degree?
    The MIM degree provides a full background in transnational business practices as well as intercultural understanding. Our graduates have taken jobs in a wide variety of fields in both the U.S. and internationally.     Special Frequently Asked Questions for Exchange Students
  1. Can I work during my stay in the United States?
    Yes. According to the standards for a student F-1 visa, international students are eligible to work 20 hours per week in On-Campus employment during the academic year. The hours may be increased to 40 hours per week during summer semester and holiday breaks.

  2. Can I begin the MIM program if I have had 17 or more years of education from a nation that doesn't grant the U.S.-recognized Bachelor's Degree?
    All international applicants are required to submit their transcripts to a professional company for evaluation services. After a formal evaluation has been written and submitted to Whitworth, an admission can be considered on the basis of equivalencies.

  3. Can the TOEFL exam be waived if I have taken coursework in English before?
    Only international students who have previously received a bachelor's degree from a U.S. institution may waive the TOEFL exam.

  4. Do I have to study a third language if I am already bilingual?
    No. some international students are exempt from the foreign language component of the MIM degree requirements. To substitute the nine credits, they will choose other business courses, or they may choose to do a study abroad or learn a third foreign language.

  5. Must I live on-campus?
    No. There are several low-cost apartments available around Whitworth University. Most graduate students find it to be less expensive and more socially rewarding to live off-campus, with or without a roommate.
