Career Opportunities
The study of language helps one to think quickly and logically and to use words effectively; it also serves to sharpen memory. This kind of training can be applied to jobs in government, translation and interpretation (foreign embassies, court translation, international business, cross-cultural training), social service (Presbyterian Church
(USA) Volunteer Corps, Mennonite Central Committee, Lutheran Volunteer Corps, etc.), education (bilingual education), business, industry, travel, tourism, media, diplomacy and the U.S. Armed Forces.
Current students and recent alumni live and work abroad during breaks and after graduation with the Peace Corps, as teachers in French schools, as au pairs in Switzerland and France, and as interns and volunteers with Latin American organizations. Several students plan to use a modern language to supplement their career aspirations in medicine and dentistry. Others use their language skills in professions that aid the country's immigrant populations. |
