Whitworth Symphony Orchestra

The Whitworth Symphony Orchestra challenges its members with the great symphonic and string literature of the past and present. The orchestra is open to all Whitworth student string players, and the wind, brass and percussion section is selected from the top musicians in the Whitworth Wind Symphony. Under the direction of Philip Baldwin, D.M.A., the Whitworth Symphony Orchestra has grown into one of the outstanding university orchestras in the region, strengthened through a partnership with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra that brings some of the area’s finest musicians to the Whitworth campus for masterclasses, section coachings, and other events. Several members of the Whitworth Symphony also have the opportunity to perform with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony. The orchestra performs several times on and off campus every year, and tours every other year over Spring Break. The Whitworth Symphony will tour northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area in 2009.
Orchestra rehearsals take place Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. (strings only) and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:15 p.m. (full orchestra).
String seating auditions take place during the first week of classes. Audition sign-ups and music are available the last week of August.
