Whitworth Wind Symphony

The Whitworth Wind Symphony specializes in the performance of outstanding traditional and contemporary literature for concert band and wind ensemble; the group presents several concerts on and off campus throughout the year. The wind symphony is open by audition to all Whitworth students in any major who are woodwind, brass, percussion, or string bass instrumentalists. The ensemble tours every other year, with recent destinations including Hawaii, San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest. The Whitworth Wind Symphony has been recognized as one of the outstanding college bands in the region; the group appeared in concert at the 1999, 2001 and 2007 All-Northwest MENC conventions, at the 2006 Washington Music Educators Association Convention, and at the 2002 College Band Directors National Association Western/ Northwestern Regional Conference. The wind symphony has also recorded and released three CDs: In the Spring (1998), New Century Dawn (2000), and Ride (2004). These CDs are available for purchase in the music office and at the Whitworth University Bookstore.

The wind symphony rehearses Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 4-5:30 p.m. Section rehearsals take place approximately once every other week, as arranged by section leaders.

In addition, some of the most outstanding players in the wind symphony perform in the Whitworth Orchestra and the Whitworth Chamber Winds.

Auditions take place during the first week of classes. Audition sign-ups and music are available the last week of August.
