People, Prophets and Politics. This study program focuses on understanding the people of multi-ethnic South Africa as they continue to build a post-apartheid society. In particular, we look at the role of the church and politics. This four-week program begins in Cape Town, a diverse and cosmopolitan city, and takes students up the country's spectacular east coast for stays in Grahamstown and Durban, before moving inland to Pretoria and Johannesburg. Days are spent meeting with academic specialists and leaders in the church, business, the media and other organizations. Particular attention is paid to understanding South Africa's AIDS crisis, as well as the other socio-economic issues it faces. Most nights are spent with host families, giving students the chance to get to know ordinary South Africans in their own homes.
