Another day in Australia leaves us with much to write home about! We have come to the realization that Adelaide is a much slower-paced city than the busy rush of downtown Sydney, perhaps a similar comparison to Spokane versus Seattle. However, we were able to experience a touch of the main city attractions here in Adelaide today.

We began our morning with a visit to the South Australian Museum downtown in order to further our knowledge about the history of the state in which we are currently residing. After inspecting numerous artifacts and carrying out self-guided tours, we made our way to the governor's house. To our disappointment, however, the governor, Marjorie Jackson, was unable to make it back to meet us in person. We have heard nothing but amazing things about her since we have arrived in Adelaide, as the citizens here seem to absolutely adore her. As the 36th governor of South Australia, Marjorie is only the second woman ever to hold the position and be granted the right to be addressed as "Her Excellency," although she insists on being called Marge. Not only is she a highly respected head of state, but she is also a gold-medal winner and world-record setting sprinter back in her youth -- quite the well-rounded woman!

After receiving a thorough tour of the Governor's house and grabbing a quick lunch, we were able to visit the Art Gallery of South Australia. This was a personal highlight for me, and I found many of the Australian art pieces absolutely fascinating, yet very different from anything I had ever seen before. Nothing like your typical Monet or Van Gogh. My personal favorite was J.W. Waterhouse's piece called Circe Invidiosa, which, if you are interested, can be seen at this website: http://www.jwwaterhouse.com/view.cfm?recordid=63 .

As the day wore on, I found that high heels and heat are never a good combination. Each of us eventually went our separate ways to the places we now call "home" to catch up on laundry, phone calls, emails, and of course some good quality time to soak up the sun while we can.
