Business Management Major
Since today was scheduled to be a free day with any plans up to our
host parents, we all voted on a much-needed late awakening. After we all
got ready for the day, Candace (younger daughter of host parents), and
Tamra (older sister of host parents), Brandon, Matt and I took a trip
down to the weekend market that is similar to a Pike's Place in Seattle.
Here we toured the various shops and their offerings and soon selected
a tea café for lunch.
After lunch we crossed the street and searched through a costume store
where Matt and Candace modeled the latest wig fashions of Adelaide. The
store (the name of which escapes me), was almost identical to a Value
Village with exception of being smaller in size and owned privately by
a very nice citizen of Adelaide.
After piling back into the car, we all traveled to the Shutzenfest,
a German festival a few minutes from the market. This festival consisted
of various tents erected over a large piece of land, some with vintage
German bands, food and of course a wide variety of German beer. After
watching a large individual with the name "Maximus" printed
in bold letters across his back swallow stein after stein in extraordinary
fashion, we packed it back up and headed home.
The night ended with a very interesting choice in cuisine selected by
Dean Usrey himself. Brandon, Matt, and I, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Usrey, found a Balfours Trailer on the side of a busy street where we
had the unique opportunity to experience a "Pie Floater." It
truly sounds as good as it tastes. It consists of a meat pie submerged
in an intense green pea soup. It was the toughest meal I have yet to choke
through, but the experience is one for the ages.
Overall, the Renton family has been unbelievably kind and loving. We
are so lucky to have the opportunity to experience the Australian culture
up-close and personal with such amazing people. We have had the opportunity
to experience wonderful food, interesting vocabulary, great wine and a
very thrilling 20-over cricket game. Our stay here in Adelaide and with
the Rentons has truly been one to remember forever.
