Business Management Major
Today we arrived on Kangaroo Island after an early start, having to
leaving our host families. The day was spent on a safari-type outing,
learning and exploring the island. We got to see the first settlement,
Prospector’s Point, seals, the Remarkable Rocks as well as other
landmarks on the island.
We walked up 437 steps to the top of a hill, where we could see the
whole island. It was amazing after we caught our breath. The island seemed
so far and small from the mainland but the view showed that it was larger
than we had thought. Then we saw the seals, after we had petted kangaroos
on the way at a rest-stop. The seal-viewing point was smelly, but we got
to see them up close and personal and watch them play. The entire island
used to have the fur seals all over it before the seal hunters came and
now they are only on the rocky beaches.
Remarkable Rocks were amazing. They sit along the shore and the way they
have been eroded over the years look like an eagle’s beak and there
are other shapes which make the rocks unique. Our guide Mark took us to
the farm where we spent the night and had dinner.
We miss our host families but today was the start of the rest of our
adventure and learning down under. Some of us are weary from the length
of time spent out of homes and families but it has been a great experience.
Except for getting up at 4:30 a.m. to catch a bus! We get to see koalas,
more kangaroos and possibly a platypus tomorrow morning, early!
