Warm Australian summer greetings to all! After some long hours of traveling,
we finally made it to the "Land Down Under" and it's been all
that I imagined it would be! I'm struggling to stay awake, because I wasn't
able to sleep very much during the 17 hours of flying we have logged from
Seattle. Not only was today "arrival day," but it was the introduction
to Sydney and the famous structures it's known for -- the Opera House
and the Harbor Bridge. I must say that I didn't think that I would be
amazed by these two structures, but now that I have been up close to both,
they are amazing and then some.
We were fortunate enough to be able to visit these sites while waiting for our meeting with the U.S. Consulate. We even met the Consul General, Mr. Stephen Smith, who was originally from Moses Lake -- small world!
I never ever thought that I would be able to sit in my board shorts and a t-shirt, wiping sweat from my forehead in the middle of the winter, but that is exactly what I'm doing right now. I fretted the 14-hour international flight from San Francisco and never thought that I was going to make it, but the wait was definitely worth it. I'll leave you with this: as a classmate and I were walking to catch the bus to our hotel, I thought out loud how amazing it was that I was in Australia. It's a lot like home, but everything is backwards. For heavens sake, they drive on the wrong side of the road, or do they?
