Molly

Feb. 8, 2007

We are nearing the end of our first week here in Saverne. Most of us finally have a good grasp of the town and of course expectations, as well as how to handle the communication barrier we are all faced with every day. It is still hard to believe that we are finally in France! All the months of preparation have finally paid off.

Our days usually consist of class in the morning, then adventuring around town to find some new thing to eat for lunch. So far, baguettes, a block of cheese, and some fruit has been a pretty typical meal, and wonderful as well. Then we often have a class outing, followed by some time to hang out with each other, and then it’s back to our host families for the evening. Adjusting to a different culture and another family's lifestyle has been very interesting and at some times difficult.

We have some great activities and day trips planned for the next week. Tomorrow we are going to the first convent built in the Alsace region, Mont St. Odile. I am so excited for the many things I know that I and the others on this program will take away from this trip. The memories we have made just in the past weeks are full of laughs and interesting details.
