Hawaii Study Program Travelogue: Thursday, Jan. 19, 2005

We have finished a very exciting part of the program. This was the part where we got to explore the depths of the ocean and see all that it has to offer. We saw many fish and reefs as we snorkeled in our Oceans and Coastlines segment. It was fun for us all as we got identify and observe the behavior of these species in their natural environment. We visited two beaches to complete this unit and saw some petraglyphs along the way. Some of our favorite fish were the Parrot fish, Humu humu nuku nuku apua`a, Yellow Tang, and eels. In addition to fish, we were also able to see turtles both on the beach and in the water.

We are going to venture into space for our next unit and see what is beyond the earth at the Canada, France, Hawai’i Telescope Center. We have about a week left and are planning to make the most of the great weather we have here before returning to the snow.
Our feature students are Lindsay and Adam.

Lindsay is a sophomore secondary education and English major from Cincinnati Ohio. She has really enjoyed hiking through the rainforest and snorkeling and is looking forward to taking the final. When she is not hitting the books she really loves to snorkel in the reefs and bake in the sun.
Adam is a junior marketing and business management major from Olympia WA. He really enjoyed the trip to green sand beach and exploring the rainforest streams. He is looking forward to investigating the massive telescopes that Hawaii has. When he is not working hard on homework he enjoys writing the Hawai’i blogs, long boarding, and working on his tan... Oh - did we mention he loves waterfalls?
