Kent
We visited Infosys and Texas Instruments in Bangalore - very impressive. TI especially was very accomodating and instructive. Infosys was very impressive and friendly as well.

On the way to Infosys our Van was re-possessed by the bank loan officers. They jumped in the van when our driver got out to ask directions. They let the driver back in, and then kindly dropped all of us at the Infosys gate. The owner of the van had not made his payments... :( anyway, they arranged for another van and all was well.

We had a great overnight train ride to Pune, where we were met and taken to Spicer. At church they asked me to call for offering - I was so emotional given my history I got up at the wrong time and (bawling) told everyone how I was glad to be back, and that I loved the place. They all were very understanding and told me it was because my heart was at Spicer. Anyway, Spicer has some interesting challenges.

The trip to Pune University was AWESOME. We visited Indira Ghosh, one of the directors of Bioinformatics at Pune University. They are doing q uite a bit of cutting edge research in this area - everything from phylogentics to carbon nanotubes toviral antibody research.Indira was very open and welcoming. She has a lot of energy and enthusiasm and direction. She is very willing to collaborate with us on research projects - simple joint projects that students from both universities can collaborate on via the Internet.

Our students really loved Pune University. Their students were very open and friendly and invited them out to dinner afterwards. They had a great time! They took them toa place that opened exclusively for their group!

We were the VERY FIRST CUSTOMERS at Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai on the 15th! We took the day and drove to Mumbai. We found the Hard Rock Cafe, and here is what happened:

  1. Drove for 2 hours to find the place
  2. They were not open yet (opening slated for the 18th)
  3. We are like: "Can we take pictures?"
  4. They are like: "Well OK!"
  5. After some time they were like - "Come inside, but don't take pictures"
  6. Then they were like "We want to practice on you! and you can take pictures"
  7. Then they gave us free food, we took pictures and gave them the first 100 ruppee note which we all signed!

We took lots of pictures and will email them.

We are now in Aurungabad. Cool visit to Dalautabad fort! They students loved the history and it helps them understand the historical context for the current culture. We seem to be the only US people in this area. We saw Europeans but no US! Lots of school children wanted their pictures taken with us.
