Cross-Cultural Studies
Jan. 20, 2007

January 20 was a day off from the business world. We all got the option of sleeping in because we didn’t have to leave until 10 a.m.  The group took a long bus ride to the outskirts of Bangalore, where we visited a safari range. We bounced inside the caged green buses down dirt roads and through impressive looking security checks to get into certain species’ environments. The day was sweltering hot, and, although it was common for the animals always to be on the opposite side of the car you were on, we got to see a few good things. Indian bears are pretty strange looking. Some people commented they looked like a cross between a sheepdog, a pig and a gremlin. We also saw deer, lions, buffalo, and, supposedly, elephants. (I think they were just pointing into the brush saying there were elephants so we would feel we had received a full trip!)

Since the heat was pretty bad we ventured away from the area for lunch but returned to wander around the caged zoo animals. It was hilarious to see monkeys running around out of the cages knocking over trash cans and following you. We also didn’t have the patience to watch the snakes devour the cute little yellow chicks they had thrown in for them (not that most of us didn’t spend a good ten minutes waiting for the act).
