Today we attended a worship service at St. Illtud’s Church. The history of the church dates back to 497 AD. It’s amazing to worship in a building older than our entire country. Sometimes old churches tend to be suited toward tourists, and this can occasionally make the service seem like more of a show. This service at St. Illtud’s, however, was very real and honest, a simple service led by average people from around the community.
I had the opportunity to stay at the Bramble Cottage Bed and Breakfast run by a wonderful woman named Linda. The cottage is a stable/barn conversion from the 17th century. It’s about a ten-minute walk from the bed and breakfasts where the rest of the group is staying, but the backyard overlooks a little creek and the entire cottage is very cozy. Linda is very nice and quick to offer suggestions of what to do and where to eat.
Overall, I have really enjoyed spending time in Llantwit Major. It is a nice change of pace from the bustle of London, and one can see some more of the Welsh countryside, which is beautiful! Everyone is very friendly and hospitable, and I’ve felt very welcome everywhere in the village.
