One day has passed since the group's arrival in London. While time has been limited, we have been able to experience a great part of the city's history and culture. Visiting sites such as the Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben has been fascinating, as they display years of London's history, dating further back than any historic site in the U.S.
However, for me, the greatest impact has come from the everyday culture. For example, I have been awed by the public transportation system. While we rely heavily on cars, the traffic on the streets of London consists mainly of buses and taxis. To go anywhere in London, our group has either walked or caught the "tube", an underground train with lines running all throughout the city. I have had to adapt quickly to the constant rush of people coming to and from the station in order to keep up with the city life.
I am also fascinated by the multiculturalism of London. When walking down the street, I constantly overhear conversations in different languages. Restaurant types vary from the local English pubs to Lebanese take-outs and Italian cafes. The diversity has allowed us to partake in many cultures throughout the day, and, for me, has provided new experiences and understanding of the people of our world.
