I think I can speak for the whole group when I say that I do not like long road trips in vans packed with 14 sweaty college students traveling for hours on end. But that's what we do. During our lengthy trips we play games and ask each other fun hypothetical questions in order to pass the time. We are now at the point in the trip where the awe of being in RSA has worn off and we are starting to immerse ourselves into the experience. We are starting to process what we have learned and to see how our various disciplines fit together. We are no longer tourists, but are actual students who treat South Africa not as a fun place to go but as a classroom for academic thought and engagement. We have moved deeper into the heartland of this place, and it now seems that our perceptions are changing and our worldviews are shifting as we encounter languages, culture, and new landscapes. It makes the journey worth it, sweaty though it may be!
