After breakfast we visited District 6, an area of Cape Town once renowned as a place of racial harmony between many different races and religious groups. In 1966, the apartheid government began a systematic removal of this community to nearby townships, destroying the homes in order to replace them with white neighborhoods. We visited Langa, the township to which many of these people were moved. It holds 500,000 people in an area unfit to house and support them.

Afterwards, our guides took us back to see both the old and new housing developed in an effort to house this massive community. The conditions were harsh, but we were met by beautiful children who jumped into our arms. We spent a good bit of time playing with them. That evening, Ron Mininger, Dr. Yoder's cousin, talked about his work in the Congo, giving us a better idea of how the Congo compares to RSA economically and politically. Afterwards we were treated to a delicious Xhosa dinner before we went back to our host families in the Mandalay township.
