About the School of Global Commerce & Management

Department Links

Whitworth University has consolidated several popular business and management programs with strong international ties into the School of Global Commerce & Management.

The School of Global Commerce & Management includes the undergraduate programs in accounting, business management, economics, marketing and international business; the organizational management program geared for working adults; the master of international management and the master of business administration graduate programs.

The School of Global Commerce & Management emphasizes the longstanding and growing international focus of Whitworth's undergraduate and graduate programs in business and management. This is reflected in curricular revisions, in new courses, and in the recruitment of faculty with expertise in global commerce and management. The university also has more than a dozen sister-school relationships with overseas institutions that bring numerous international students to campus each year. In addition, says Richard Schatz, professor of economics, the university's mission speaks of a commitment to service that has long been understood to apply to people around the world.

The School of Global Commerce & Management's expansion over the years has brought in initiatives for internship, mentoring and service-learning programs designed to strengthen connections between Whitworth students and the business and nonprofit community.

"In the 21st century, the vast majority of businesses and organizations will need to think globally, both in terms of how they market and deliver their products and in how they procure supplies, capital and even employees," Schatz says. " That includes businesses headquartered in Spokane as well as businesses headquartered elsewhere around the world," he adds. "Whitworth's long history of international programs, coupled with the strengthened focus under the School of Global Commerce & Management, puts us in a unique position for preparing students to meet those demands."
