Professor Receives National Recognition for Theatrical Work

Associate Professor of Theatre Diana Trotter was feted at the 2000 "Tony Awards for amateur theatre" when the Spokane Civic Theatre's production of Steven Dietz's Lonely Planet was named best in the nation by the American Association of Community Theatres. Trotter was named best director for her work on the play, and the two-member cast shared best-actor honors. The production of Dietz's play, which tells a story of AIDS and friendship, had earned the company first place in the association's state and regional competitions held earlier in the year.

Diana Trotter holds a master's degree and doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley. Her areas of expertise include the role of theatre in the Christian community, performance theory, acting, theatre history and gender studies. Her professional credits include Portland's Tapestry Theatre and the Spokane Civic Theatre.
