Whitworth University Certification for Ministry Program

In the early 1990s, Whitworth began the Certification for Ministry Program, designed to train students for entry-level positions in churches and Christian organizations. Since that time, the program has served the Christian movement well, both in the United States and around the world.
The need for trained, disciplined, visionary, godly leaders for God's work in the world exceeds the supply. The demand for Whitworth-trained leaders exceeds the supply, too, because so many churches and Christian organizations look to Whitworth graduates for leadership and vision.
Faculty members affirm Whitworth's Certification for Ministry Program because it upholds the tradition and integrity of the university's Christian liberal-arts education. Students appreciate the program because it...
- prepares students for jobs available to them upon graduation;
- helps them test their gifts and discover their sense of calling;
- provides biblical and culturally relevant training for ministry;
- creates a strong community among students.

What I most appreciated about the Certification for Ministry Program was that it prepared me so specifically for actual ministry situations. The material in each class was taught and presented in a way that pushed us to think of related ministerial situations and then to wrestle with possible applications. We were also challenged constantly to integrate our theology and our ministry to ensure that each was reflected in the other.
