Personal Page: Jonathan Moo

The theology & philosophy department is pleased to announce that Jonathan Moo has accepted an invitation to join Whitworth's faculty. Jonathan comes to us with expertise in both the Old and New Testaments. He is especially interested in matters relating to creation, eschatology, and the relationship between Christian theology and science. Jonathan is well-equipped for this research. He majored in biology and English as an undergraduate at Lake Forest College, earned a Master of Science in wildlife ecology from Utah State University, and received two M.A.'s from Gordon Conwell Theological seminary – one in New Testament and one in Old Testament. Jonathan will graduate this spring from the University of Cambridge with a Ph.D. in New Testament. His dissertation is titled "Creation and Cosmic Transformation in the Apocalypse of Ezra and the Apocalypse of John."

Jonathan was chosen from among a very talented pool of over 150 applicants. He has received numerous academic awards, has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has graduate-level teaching experience. Remarkably, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship with The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at St. Edmund's College, Cambridge even before completing his doctoral studies. This highly competitive fellowship runs for two more years, which means that Jonathan will begin teaching at Whitworth in the fall of 2010. It seems fitting to mention that the glowing letters of recommendation which we received for Jonathan all had equally high praise for his wife Stacey.
