Greetings! We on the philosophy side of the department are so sorry to be losing Rebekah Rice to S.P.U. But we understand her family reasons for leaving, and we wish her the best over on the rainy side of the state. For next year we have Matthew Roberts joining us for the year. Matt has been teaching at Wheaton College after finishing his doctorate at University of Colorado. We look forward to getting to know him. During the coming year we will have a search for a permanent replacement. This past year I was again able to teach some of my favorite classes: C.S. Lewis, Ancient Philosophy, Logic, and Philosophy of Religion. I also enjoyed working with the Core 250 team and took a delightful group of students to Europe for the Core 250 Study Program in January. Right after commencement, Ron Pyle and I are taking a group of 38 students on the Core trip. It will be quite a challenge to manage such a large group, but we are looking forward to our time. I will stay on in London to do research at the British Library and then will lead my extended family (40 of us!) on a tour of Europe. It should be an exciting, if exhausting, summer. For the past 10 years I have had the amazing privilege of having at least one of our children at Whitworth. But our son, Soren, graduates this year (as a theology major) and Joy and I will not only be complete empty-nesters; Whitworth will probably feel a bit emptier to me as well. But we continue to get bright and eager students and we will continue to do our best to educate their minds and hearts!
