Faculty
Whitworth's theology department is noted for its commitment to excellent teaching, strong scholarship and Christian ministry. The theology faculty takes Christian discipleship seriously, which informs and inspires its commitment as teachers, mentors, scholars, and leaders.
Jerry Sittser is the chair of the M.A. in Theology Program. He has taught at Whitworth since 1989. He specializes in the history of Christianity and American religion, though his most popular courses are Introduction to the Christian Faith and Christian Spirituality. The theology program is primarily a Christian studies program, strong in the classical disciplines of Biblical studies, church history, and Christian theology. Its mission is to provide students with an academically challenging, robust foundation in Christian studies that will prepare them well for a life of serving Christ in the world. This mission is extended to the broader community through the new master of arts in theology program.
