Whitworth University M.A. in Theology

Developing deeply committed, spiritually disciplined, visionary leaders for the church.

Whitworth's MA in Theology Program is built on a rich theological tradition and taught by Whitworth's nationally recognized theology faculty. It provides high quality biblical and theological training for men and women who desire to serve God in the church and society.

Why such a program? The Whitworth theology faculty believe that the church in America needs renewal. Good biblical education can contribute to that renewal, provided it serves the needs of the church. That is exactly what this program is intended to do.

What makes it unique? The program is designed to be academically rigorous and practical. Each course is rooted in a traditional theological discipline and will challenge students to apply what they are learning to ministry. In addition, each course will provide opportunities for spiritual formation.

Who is it for? The program has four groups of people in mind: people already in ministry, recent graduates who want to pursue graduate theological education, people considering ministry as a second vocation, and active lay people who want to go deeper.

The program schedule allows those who work full time, and those who live outside the Spokane area, to complete their master's program with limited on-campus attendance. Courses are formatted as follows:

  • Friday evening/all day Saturday: once each month during fall and spring
  • Week-long intensive courses: summer and January

Whitworth's M.A. in Theology program is designed around:

Classical Theology - rooted in the disciplines of Biblical studies, theology and history.
Practical Ministry - focused on addressing contemporary ministry challenges
Spiritual Formation - learn together as a praying, worshipping community.
