Howard Redmond
, (1957-1990) professor emeritus of theology
Let me share a recent experience. In the second half of April, my wife and I went to Norway, ending up at the North Cape, well within the Arctic Circle and about as close to the North Pole as I'll ever get. (Our bus got stuck in the snow there for a while.) What a testimony to God the Creator! Coming back on to the ship, I had a chance to lead a worship service -- something the ship seemed rarely if ever to have had before. I spoke on the 19th Psalm, the one beginning, "The heavens declare the glory of God" -- an impressive verse near the top of the world! -- but in the second half of the psalm there is a mood change, with an emphasis on our personal relationship with God. "May the words of my mouth...be acceptable in Thy sight."

Do you remember the childhood table-blessing, "God is great and God is good" ? It essentially sums up the message of the 19th Psalm: we worship One who is both great (in creation) and good (in His dealing with us). It was a church service I'll not soon forget!
