Course Schedule

The curriculum for Whitworth's M.A. in Theology Program is built around a cohort model in which, for valuable learning and community experience, a group of students completes the core courses together, following the program sequentially.

Each core course is offered every year, allowing for completion of the program at the student's selected pace. Most part-time students complete the program in just under three years. Students may also choose to take a more concentrated schedule and finish earlier.

The schedule is designed for part-time, on-campus attendance, with much of the coursework, reading, assignments, and communication with the instructor and fellow students taking place outside of the classroom via e-mail and web-based course management.

The M.A. in Theology Degree Program is designed for optimal learning with limited time on campus.  Though students may choose to begin the program with electives during the year, the core curriculum begins each summer with an orientation in May.  The first course of the core curriculum, The Great Tradition: History of Christianity I, and the last course, Christian Theology, meet in a week-long intensive format during the summer.  The week-long intensive courses are designed to provide students an immersion into both community and spiritual enrichment as they begin and end their core curricular requirements.

Most other courses are offered via a combination of Thursday, Friday and Saturday classes, meeting once monthly for three months in fall and spring, and more often in January and summer sessions.  See the course schedule for more detail.
