Dr. Bethke-Elshtain is the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicago. Author of Public Man, Private Woman: Women in Social and Political Thought and soon to be published, Jane Addams and America and The King is Dead, Sovereignty at Century's End, Professor Bethke-Elshtain is one of the country's leading public intellectuals and political philosophers.

Dr. Light, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of the Incarnate Word, will speak on the nature of mentoring as part of . Dr. Light has published in the areas of nursing history and ethics and mentoring in faith-based institutions of higher education. Discussion and response will follow Dr. Light's presentation, in addition to panel presentations and break-out concurrent sessions.
Fr. Valerian Odermann, a Benedictine monk and priest of Assumption Abbey in Richardton, North Dakota, is also Professor of Theology and Chaplain at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. He specializes in mentoring and will speak on the Benedictine model for spiritual mentoring.

Speaker: Rev. Dr. F. Dale Bruner, Jesus's Sermon on the Mount

Rev. Bruner is professor emeritus of religion at Whitworth University and noted scholar, author, and Bible teacher. Tuition is $300 (plus room and board).
A person does not have to be officially enrolled in a certificate program to attend.

Dr. Sandra Cooper is Professor of Mathematics at Washington State University. She will speak on the issue of underrepresentation of women in mathematics, science and engineering and suggest improvements for this situation.
This event is one of several sponsored by the Math/Computer Science Department's academic initiative program.

Speaker: Dr. Duncan Ferguson, "The Vocation of the Teacher in the Presbyterian College."

Formerly the academic vice-president at Whitworth in the 1970s, Ferguson is one of the nation's leaders in Presbyterian education. Most recently he headed the Office of Higher Education of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and served as president of the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities. He is currently the Director for the Center for Spiritual Life at Eckerd College.
Drs. Don and Doris Liebert will be honored for their life-long service to the Presbyterian Church (USA).
