Faculty/Staff Programs: Academic Initiatives
  • Each year, departmental initiatives related to curricular innovations allow students to discern vocation, understand the different contexts of that vocation, and explore moral, ethical and political commitments in these vocations. Possible departmental innovations include guest speakers, new courses, additions to or creation of senior capstone courses, research projects, and internship opportunities. Contact Dr. Dale Soden for more information.

  • In addition to departmental initiatives, the School of Education and the School of Global Commerce and Management are developing specific initiatives within their schools. These initiatives include retreats, reading groups, symposia, connections to alumni, and faculty development. For more information on these programs, contact Dr. Dennis Sterner, dean of the School of Education and Dr. Kyle Usrey, dean of the School of Global Commerce and Management.

  • Individual faculty are also developing special projects around the subject of vocation.
    • Dr. Ginny Whitehouse in the Communication Studies Department is developing a vocations workbook which will be implemented into the college's internship program. The notebook compiles feedback from alumni, students, faculty and staff in an attempt to prepare students for workplace culture and vocational reflection.
    • Dr. Michael LeRoy of the Politics, History and International Studies Department is currently at work on a book focusing on the issues of vocation and public life. Acts of Faith in Public Life: Christian Vocation and Calling in a Post-Christian World explores young people’s disconnection between public life and religious faith. The book will also profile narratives of the career and vocation of a Christian in public life.
