Spring 2010 Service-Learning Fair
On Feb. 18, the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement invited our community partners and students to attend the Spring 2010 Service-Learning Fair in the Hixson Union Building.  Twenty-five community partner agencies participated in the fair, reporting as many as 40 students visiting one agency (with an average of approximately 17 students visiting each community partner table). In the words of one community partner, "You continue to create a great networking opportunity for us."

Haiti Earthquake Response
After the devastating Haiti earthquake on Jan. 12, the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement took a leading role in coordinating fund-raising efforts on campus to provide funding for the Three Angels orphanage, school and medical clinic in Port Au Prince, Haiti. Collection containers for donations were distributed around campus at the beginning of the spring 2010 semester for donations to the Three Angels Haiti ministry. Whitworth students also coordinated fund-raising events, including the Black Student Union's Soul Food Dinner on Feb. 12, and collecting donations at the Northwest Conference basketball doubleheader between Linfield and Whitworth on Jan. 20.

H1N1 Clinics in West Central Neighborhood
The Whitworth University Health Center sponsored a free H1N1 vaccination clinic at the West Central Community Center on March 6th. The project, which was coordinated by the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement, was an intentional effort to make a significant impact in the West Central Neighborhood. The event was promoted by visits to agencies in the West Central Neighborhood, such as Anna Ogden Hall, Deaconess Women’s Clinic, Native Project, West Boone Head Start Center, Bryant School, Girl Scouts Inland Northwest Council, Youth for Christ, and Walnut Corners.
