Home-School Applicant Information

Whitworth University welcomes students who have been educated through home-school curricula. We recognize the unique perspective and experience you bring to our student body, and we encourage you to apply.

Whitworth has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1; the university provides a supportive academic experience through which professors are able to get to know their students and to challenge them through their classroom curriculum.

The following information is requested from home-schooled applicants:

  1. A completed Whitworth Application for Admission or the Common Application.

  2. The Whitworth Academic Recommendation Form (PDF), which can be completed by a parent/guardian

  3. One letter of recommendation, from someone other than a parent, that addresses the applicant's academic accomplishments

  4. A transcript showing academic achievement that includes a list of the courses taken, the grade earned for each course, and the cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). The transcript must be signed by an official of the home-school program or by a parent.

  5. Test score: ACT and/or SAT (required of home-schooled applicants)

  6. A list of activities and honors, or a résumé

Whitworth welcomes and enrolls many home-schooled students. In admissions review, we consider a GPA from an accredited home-school program as we would a GPA from an accredited high school. For students home-schooled in non-accredited programs, we consider the GPA but give extra weight to other parts of the application file. For purposes of awarding academic scholarships, we will consider the GPA for accredited home-school programs and/or scores on the SAT or ACT. For students home-schooled in non-accredited programs, we award scholarships based solely on SAT or ACT scores.

If you have questions, or if you would like more information regarding our admissions process and financial aid opportunities, please contact your admissions counselor.
