Freshman Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Whitworth University!

Our primary goal in the admissions process is to identify students who demonstrate the academic promise and personal traits to succeed at Whitworth University. For more information regarding the freshman admissions process, please view our list of "Frequently Asked Questions."

Freshman application deadlines:

  • The Early Action Deadline is Nov. 30
  • The Regular Decision Deadline is March 1.

  Admissions criteria:

  • High school grade point average
  • SAT/ACT scores. Applicants may request an interview in place of having their test scores considered for their admissions application. Please click here for details.
  • Rigorous college preparatory coursework
  • The reputation of the applicant's high school
  • Participation in extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • The quality of each student's written application and personal statement


Freshman applicants must submit the following:

  1. The Whitworth Application for Admission. The common application is also accepted, but additional information will be required.

  2. Academic Recommendation Form (PDF)

    • The form must be completed by a high school teacher or high school counselor.
    • Although we require only one academic recommendation form, we will accept additional recommendation forms sent to the admissions office.
    • Your high school teacher or counselor may attach a letter on school letterhead to the form.

  3. Official High School Transcript

    • The official transcript must be sent directly from your high school to the Whitworth Admissions Office in a sealed envelope.
  4. SAT/ACT scores or interview (Test-Optional Policy FAQ)

    • SAT or ACT test scores
    1. Your test scores may be sent directly from the testing service or you may fax us a copy of the score report you received in the mail. The fax number for the Admissions Office is 509.777.3758.
    • Interview
      • If you mark on your online application that you do not want to have your SAT or ACT test scores considered for your admissions application, we will contact you to schedule a phone interview after your high school transcript and secondary school report/academic recommendation are received.
      • Please note that test scores are required for some of our academic scholarships.
