Home > Whitworth University Chapel Programs
We seek to honor God through a variety of experiences. The Whitworth community gathers each Tuesday and Thursday morning (11-11:30 a.m.) for worship. This service involves a wide variety of the Whitworth community leading in prayer, singing, the performing arts, the reading and preaching of Scripture, and the celebration of the Lord's Table. On Tuesdays at 9:45 p.m. there is a student-led contemporary praise and worship service called Hosanna. During this service the chapel is full of students seeking God in worship through song and prayer as they encourage one another to live out their commitment to Christ. There are also several worship services, initiated and led by students, that take place in residence halls throughout the year. At Whitworth University we seek to follow Christ through an emphasis on spiritual growth through small group Bible study, prayer, and encouragement. Small group coordinators work with the Chaplain's Office to train and support small groups, initiated and led by volunteer student leaders, which meet regularly to study scripture, pray, and encourage each other to live out their call to follow Christ. These small groups happen all over campus throughout the week and serve as a foundational experience for spiritual growth as students seek to learn from one another and grow in Christ-likeness. In addition to small groups, many student meet regularly to pray. Finally, the spiritual mentoring program links individual students with faculty and staff for the purpose of providing mutual spiritual wisdom and guidance, which have been a highlight for students who participate in them. These peer-led small groups, prayer gatherings, and mentoring groups truly are a highlight of the Whitworth experience. We seek to serve humanity through a variety of service experiences and opportunities. Working closely with the ASWU SERVE Coordinator, programs such as En Christo, Young Life, Westminster House, City Gate, Habitat for Humanity, Diakonia, etc., as well as involvement in ministry in dozens of congregations, provides students with ample opportunity to serve. The dean of the chapel places a strong emphasis on Christian service as a natural, vital and necessary expression of personal commitment to Christ. Through this three-fold approach, the chapel's programs have become an integral part of Whitworth's commitment to educate each student spiritually and to call each student into a growing spiritual commitment.
