Whitworth University Snow Removal Plan

During the snow season (Dec. 1-March 1) Facilities Services is on alert for snow and ice removal needs. We will do everything we can to make walking and driving on campus as safe as possible.

Ice Plan: Any time there are conditions that will produce ice on our walks and roads we attempt to put down liquid deicer before 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends we control ice as needed.  Please note that we do not put deicer or salt on sidewalks that are less than a year old as it damages the newer concrete. We will do our best to remove the snow and ice in those areas.

Snow Plan: If there are 2 inches of snow on the ground and a threat of more snow we will start clearing as soon as we can. If this occurs overnight we will respond and start clearing snow at 3 a.m. in order to be ready for an 8 a.m. start of business. Our priorities for snow removal are depicted on the campus snow removal priority map (PDF). During a prolonged snow event we will focus our efforts on priority 1 and 2 areas.

Priority 1     Loop Road and primary campus walkways and parking lots T2, T3, J1, G2 and D1
Priority 2  Athletics complex road, secondary walkways, and parking lots T2, G3 and east part of A1
Priorities 3 to 5 See campus snow removal priority map (PDF)
Contractor A contractor plows most of our off campus parking areas including Hawthorne Hall, Cornerstone, Hawthorne House and theme houses. This will occur simultaneously with the main campus plowing during a snow event.
Not Plowed

Several parking lots are not plowed at all. These are primarily campus resident parking areas. Shovels are available for resident use; check with your RD.

How you can help: Please do not park in the "No Overnight Parking" lots after 10 p.m. This ensures that we are able to clear the parking lots for staff, faculty, and commuting students by morning.
